Answers to some of our most frequently asked questions:

How long do you plan on staying in the Dominican?

Right now, our only definite is… indefinitely! We want to go where God leads. We believe in the importance of investing in people’s lives. The best way to get involved is to spend time with people. With that belief in mind, we’re trying to find ways to show Jesus to those around us here in the DR.

What does a normal day look like for your family?

“Normal” is difficult to nail down – both our family and our ministry are ever changing and growing. In the past, Ang has taught in the school and worked with our sponsorship program. She’s currently focused on training our newly-hired Dominican teachers. Scott has been a jack-of-all-trades. He has helped with village ministry, taught elementary music classes in the school, coordinated trips for short-term teams, and more. In January 2021, he took the role of Interim President as some transitioning happened on the ground. Now that he has accepted the position of President, our roles are becoming more established. The Freedom team as a whole does so much to keep this place moving forward!

Am I able to visit?

Yes! Internships and short-term trips are available through Freedom. The exciting aspect of our ministry is that we are working with the same children and families every day. Someone who comes for a short period of time can make an impact and stay connected with the people through the long-term work of the missionaries.  And those people who are a part of our child sponsorship program are able to visit and encourage their children in person!

How do you receive mail?  Can we send you packages?

We receive mail through a courier service. Shipping can be expensive, so we do our best to bring things down in suitcases. Coordinate with us on packages by e-mailing scottmitchener@itisforfreedom.com to see what is the best option for getting items to the DR.
